Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would put her in America's eyes, into the category of child prodigy. For a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended families, these characteristics were a naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin in Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin and also owned part of the well-known Irish soccer team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athletic natural and enjoyed playing tough sports. In addition to this her talent, she also had a knack acting. This was apparent when she was awarded every Feis for theatre and drama that Ireland had to provide. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dreams of classical theater and opera singing.
